A Massachusetts based life sciences company has announced it will establish a manufacturing facility in Wilson County that will ultimately bring 1,400 jobs.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has invested more than $100 million to build the new technology assembly facility, which will manufacture single-use bioprocess containers used to produce biologics and vaccines

The approximate 400,000 square foot facility on Darrell Waltrip Drive is part of Speedway Industrial Park.

The new facility will initially create about 400 jobs and increase over the next several years.

The first phase of construction is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2022, according to the company.

Jobs will include manufacturing, assembling and packaging bioprocess containers with additional roles in engineering, procurement, quality, warehousing and site leadership planned.

“Thermo Fisher’s Nashville site will play a critical role in the company’s effort to support the global pharmaceutical industry’s work in developing life-saving biologics and vaccines to address many diseases,” Thermo Fisher Scientific Executive Vice President Michel Lagarde stated in a news release.

Speedway Industrial Park is part of the original Nashville Superspeedway property.

GEODIS, FedEx, Cold Chain Technologies and Amazon are already among the tenants in the initial phases of the redevelopment being done by Panattoni Development Company.

Speedway Industrial Park development began in 2018 after Nashville Superspeedway closed as a racing venue in 2011.

None of the property purchased for the industrial park includes land where the speedway is on.

Racing returned to the Nashville Superspeedway. with NASCAR events held in June.
